Train Engineer Job Description
Overview
Train engineers are also known as Locomotive engineers who are responsible for driving freight or passenger trains between stations. They inspect trains before use, operate the train using manual and computer controls, monitor the instruments such as train speed, battery use, and air pressure, load and unload freight, operate air brakes and throttles, and follow railroad regulations. They also consult with conductors or traffic control center for signal or traffic, and also ensure that documentation, including procedure manuals and logbooks are available.
