Coordinator Intern Job Description
Overview
The Coordinator Intern works to gain experience in organizing the the schedules of support staff, students, casuals and temps. Their role is to arrange venues and schedules for meetings between all of the individuals who are contributing to tasks. Their responsibilities are collaborating with clients or employers, finance teams, and other team members on budgeting and allocating funds, communicating with clients or employers about projects, events and campaign goal expectations, delegating tasks to appropriate team members, and maintaining files and records.

- Specific training and education around coordination doesn’t hurt but getting a role as a coordinator can be done without these things. - Having a history working in a corporate setting or having leadership aspects to a non-corporate job is a great start to moving into a coordinator role. In order to make a switch to this discipline, you need to demonstrate you have some understanding of the environment you will be coordinating.

Ultimately, in a senior coordinator role, you are really a foundational individual in your colleagues' ability to get their work done and to complete projects. So they're relying on you to make sure that all the logistical components are taken care of.
Coordinator Pros
I think the pros are if you're somebody who really enjoys orchestrating and overseeing large projects, who likes to collaborate with a lot of different people, if you want to see the many, many different arms of an organization, if you're still kind of in that exploratory phase of your career, or you're looking to switch careers into a different industry, this is a great role to give you access into that and to be able to understand what's out there and how a lot of the pieces of the puzzle fit together for the organization or industry that you're in.
Coordinator Challenges
You might be in charge of executing on a project's success, and there's a lot of individuals that are also a part of a project's success, but you're not their direct manager. Oftentimes, they're a peer or you're even a few steps under them. So you are leading with influence oftentimes, and that can be something that requires a lot of finesse. It requires a lot of interpersonal skill development and understanding the goals and needs of others in your organization and the organization itself.
How to Become a Senior Coordinator
So to get into a senior coordinator role, the best thing to do is really to start out in a coordinator role. This is a great way to get exposure to the different things that a senior coordinator can do or might do. You're going to often work with other senior coordinators.
I would recommend absolutely finding a mentor, someone who can really sponsor your growth and is invested in your growth in the role.
