An Artist Director oversees all aspects of the artistic production of an organization. Their role is assessing and selecting the performances that will be shown, recruiting actors and performers, setting production schedules, and managing budgets. Their responsibilities are creating the organization’s program, hiring staff such as artists, directors, performers, actors, stage managers and designers, commissioning playwrights to write plays, reading and selecting the scripts that are submitted to the theatre, managing the theatre’s budget, and dealing with funding bodies.
