Overview
Position: President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Client: Vermont Information Technology Leaders, Inc. (VITL)
Location: Remote-first organization; ideal candidate resides in Vermont with ability to attend in-person meetings. Candidates not in Vermont are encouraged to apply if willing to relocate.

Position Overview
This is a key leadership role at a not-for-profit organization focused on health data exchange in Vermont. The CEO will balance financial sustainability with the technological resources needed to advance VITL9;s mission, lead healthcare innovation, and collaborate with providers, payers, and state agencies.
The CEO will provide strategic leadership to advance interoperability, data standards, and secure data sharing to improve Vermont healthcare outcomes, while building partnerships with state government, health systems, and national organizations.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic and visionary leadership for VITL, including development and execution of the strategic roadmap for engagement, operations, and technology; ensure alignment with state needs and stakeholder objectives.
Engage with funders and stakeholders to understand goals and ensure initiatives deliver value and accountability.
Represent VITL across Vermont’s healthcare ecosystem and to national organizations; advocate for VITL’s work and funding with policymakers and regulators.
Provide operational, technical, and financial oversight, including planning, process optimization, and project delivery; maintain a robust technical roadmap aligned with interoperability standards.
Maintain expertise in healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR/HL7), HIPAA, Information Blocking rules, EHRs, and HIE technologies; guide integration and data sharing improvements.
Oversee budgeting, fiscal management, and resource alignment with strategic priorities; monitor regulatory and policy changes affecting VITL.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards; operate effectively in a changing environment.
Demonstrate credible, transparent leadership with strong communication; foster collaboration and empower staff.
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in healthcare IT, healthcare, or technology sectors.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MS) preferred.
Proven experience with healthcare technology, interoperability standards, data architectures, and health information exchange.
Visionary and strategic leader with ability to drive innovation and navigate evolving health reform landscapes.
Strong execution capability with attention to detail and a collaborative mindset.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; ability to engage diverse stakeholders and policymakers.
Experience with procurement, implementation, and management of complex IT platforms in dynamic environments.
Understanding of HIPAA and regulatory requirements; experience working with government and regulatory bodies preferred.
