Babson College Graduate Peer Tutor
Reports to: Danielle Beasley, Associate Director, Graduate Academic Services
Hours per week: Up to 10 hours per week
Description of Position: This position consists of group tutoring to graduate students. In general, tutors can expect to hold one group tutoring session per week for 1-2 hours per session, and a handful of office hours for the duration of the course. Tutors will clarify learning problems in specific subject areas, assist in reviewing class material, discussing course texts, problem-solving, and test preparation. Tutors can also expect to spend time preparing for each tutoring session for 2-3 hours per class. This preparation includes meeting with professors and occasionally attending class. Between tutoring and preparation, the weekly time commitment averages around 10 hours.
While Graduate Peer Tutors are not expected to know every detail of these courses, a tutor will need to specialize in one or more specific graduate courses or equivalent course content amongst the following:
- ACC6110 – Resource Planning and Control/Managerial Accounting
- ACC7800 – Financial Reporting
- ECN6110 – Entrepreneurial Economics; comparable to ECN7500 Managerial Economics
- FIN6110 – Finance
- FIN7800 – Finance
- MOB7801 – Strategy
- OIM6301 – Programming for Business Analytics
- OIM7800 – Operations and Information Management
- QTM7800 – Business Analytics
- QTM9510 – Optimization Method
Responsibilities:
- Complete required tutor orientation; meet with Danielle Beasley as requested and respond to emails in a timely manner.
- Meet with professors of your assigned subject at the beginning of every semester and throughout the semester at the professor’s convenience.
- Check your email regularly to review any new or updated inquiries.
- Update the shared Google calendar for group tutor sessions.
- Asked to proctor exams as schedule allows
Qualifications:
- High academic achievement in the specific content area
- Responsible, dependent, honest, mature
- Friendly, patient, and sensitive to the concerns of a diverse student population
- Instructor recommendation preferred
COMPENSATION
Tutors are paid $25 per hour. This includes time spent tutoring and preparing for tutoring sessions.
