ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Central Facilities Services department of The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a dependable professional for the position of Painter in a temporary assignment working 40 hours per week through approximately the end of August 2025.
The Painter performs a variety of interior and exterior painting services on buildings, facilities, equipment, fixtures, furniture, and road surfaces. Complete preparation tasks before painting, such as cleaning and patching surfaces, and erecting interior and exterior rigging.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of buildings, furniture, and other structures using brushes, spray gun, and/or paint roller.
Prepare surfaces for painting and finishes to produce a fine finish. Use sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool. Remove old paint and finishes from surfaces using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, blowtorch, or waterblast. Fill in nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler, and patch plaster. Tape, top, texture, and finish drywall.
Select premixed paints to match specified colors.
Select the most appropriate and efficient method for the type of surface/structure.
Hang wallpaper and other decorative or protective coverings.
Erect interior and exterior rigging for normal work.
Install replacement glazing, glass, and mirrors.
Maintain brushes and shop equipment. Thoroughly clean tools and equipment after use on every job.
Use protective clothing, safety equipment, and respirators. Follow proper procedure and comply with applicable Cal/OSHA and OSHA requirements as applicable to work.
Maintain an organized and safe work environment.
Provide support to the Utility Shop and Central Facilities Services department.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Unless otherwise stated, the following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Education: High school diploma or the equivalent in a combination of education, training, and additional experience beyond the minimum required.
Experience: At least two (2) years of experience demonstrating the ability to apply the techniques of the trade.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, determine linear measurements, compute areas and volumes of conventional shapes and forms, and compute approximate weight of objects.
Fluent English language skills, including ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write.
Ability to climb ladders, crawl in attics and under buildings, lift and carry heavy equipment, bend, stoop, work from heights, and work in uncomfortable positions.
Ability to work productively and effectively without continuous supervision.
Be available for overtime work and to be on-call.
Be able to wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed.
Be able to work in a safe manner, follow proper procedures, and comply with Cal/OSHA and OSHA requirements as applicable to work.
Basic skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Effective and professional communication skills with a diverse population of team members, contract personnel, and other internal and external contacts.
Present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS.
Other: A valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to TCC’s automobile liability insurance provider.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this position are 40 hours per week schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday through approximately the end of August 2025. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
COMPENSATION
Pay: The hourly rate for this position is commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $25.00-28.00 per hour.
Benefits: Due to the temporary nature of this position, it is only eligible for the following mandated benefits: California Sick Leave, workers’ compensation, disability, Medicare, and social security, subject to the terms and conditions in the plan documents/policies.
