Job Summary:
The Laboratory Operations Manager will oversee lab operations, focusing on cannabis extraction, product quality, and regulatory compliance. This role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of extraction methods, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Manage and train the lab team, developing SOPs to ensure consistency and quality.
- Operations: Oversee and optimize extraction processes (CO2, ethanol, hydrocarbon) for quality and yield. Resolve equipment and process issues.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet potency, purity, and consistency standards. Maintain detailed records and collaborate on testing protocols. Familiarity with HPLC and similar techniques is highly beneficial.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure lab activities comply with regulations. Prepare and maintain documentation for inspections.
- R&D: Lead research on new extraction techniques and product formulations. Stay updated on industry trends.
- Safety & Equipment: Enforce safety protocols, manage hazardous materials, and ensure equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Budget Management: Oversee the lab budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in a regulated cannabis lab operation is required, with a minimum of 2+ years in management.
- Expertise in extraction methods and lab management.
- Proficiency in HPLC and similar analytical techniques is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
